May 19, 2011 - On Tuesday night, North Colonie
residents approved the district budget totaling $92,929,000 for the
2011- 2012 school year. The vote tally was substantially supportive
with 1791 yes votes to 983 no votes. Of the 2774 votes cast for the
budget, 64.6% were “yes” votes.
Clearly, the overwhelming support that you
expressed for this budget is indicative of your appreciation of the
excellent work done daily by our administrators, teachers and
support staff. More importantly, it shows your continued commitment
to the students of North Colonie.
I would like to thank those who came out during
our budget committee meetings and community budget forums in the
fall to help us wrestle with some difficult choices. We made a
promise to you last May that the budget process for 2011-12 would
start shortly following the annual vote. Next year will be no
different. While many tough decisions had to be made this past
budget season, it is expected that even more difficult decisions lie
ahead due in part to the continued loss of state aid and a possible
property tax cap.
As such, I encourage you to become involved in
next year’s budget discussions. The Board of Education anticipates
once again holding budget committee meetings in the 2011-12 school
year in order to keep abreast of the current fiscal situation and
the thoughts and opinions of our community.
Thank you for your support of North Colonie
schools. I look forward to seeing you around the District in the
coming weeks.
Sincerely,
D. Joseph Corr
