Southgate teachers show off their superhero capes which they wore during the school assembly.

On Feb. 4, Southgate Elementary faculty, staff and students honored 40 local “superheroes”, who serve our community and country including members of the following organizations:
Colonie Police
Shaker Road – Loudonville Fire Department
Colonie EMS
Albany County Sheriff’s Department
NYS Troopers
U.S. Armed Forces

Many of the superheroes are also family members and friends of Southgate students, as well as teachers. Students presented banners they made for their superheroes during a school-wide assembly. This year, Southgate kicked off its school success assembly in September by asking students “What is your superpower?” Some examples they came up with included, being a good friend, being cooperative, and listening to others. Each month, Southgate introduces a new character education trait to students to promote school success and a peaceable environment. Thank you to all of the superheroes who were apart of this event!
