Congratulations to the following art students:

  • Malerie Muratori, senior
  • Cecilia Lu, junior
  • Alexis Ebanks, junior
  • George Tidd, junior
  • Maddie Okula, junior
  • Sarah Kiehle, senior
  • Grace Romania, senior

All nine pieces of artwork can be seen in the photo gallery, here.

This year, 130 pieces were selected from a total of 484 pieces that were submitted by 20 area schools. The judges consisted of art educators and artists; Elizabeth Greenberg, Jean Dahlgren and Danny Goodwin who reviewed and selected the work for the show. The panel was impressed by the large number of very strong art works in a range of media produced by area high school students in their art classes.

Two important factors for selecting student artwork for the annual Regional Exhibit include mastery of technical skill, and students’ abilities to go beyond both technical competence and the apparent classroom assignments to present original or unique visual solutions that reveal something of the artists.

A reception for the artists is set for Friday, March 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. with the awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m., with remarks by Jean Dahlgren, Dean of the Sage College of Albany. The exhibit at The Opalka Gallery on the Sage campus in Albany will be open from March 21 through April 23.
