News from the library
December 2012
It’s December and the library is hopping! We
have just finished up our “Come to the Colonies” video
advertising project with Clay 7. Students researched their
regional colonial area and created tourism commercials, complete
with costumes. It is always a lot of fun. Mr. Rizzo then shows
the videos to students during the week before winter break.
Not to be outdone, Houston 7 is in the process of researching
Colonial Historical figures that will culminate in a tea party
to be celebrated the week before winter break.
We hosted the Muckraker Café in the library, created by Miss
Stott and Mrs. Peterson. Students dine on tiny hot dogs while
reading excerpts from Upton Sinclair’s the Jungle, among other
fun activities.
Mrs. Kerr’s Norris 8 students came in to create poster size
Facebook projects featuring historic figures from the
Progressive Era.
We look forward to future adventures in the new year!

What We Do
The Shaker Junior High School Library
provides a vibrant learning environment for its students. Our
librarians work closely with teachers to develop activities that
not only pertain to NYS Learning Standards but are intended to
turn our students into lifelong learners. Using their technology
passwords, students have computer access to research databases,
general Internet and our online library catalog.
Reading has always been a major focus at the
Junior High School Library. Students will find a variety of
reading materials to suit their leisure reading and research
needs. We are very proud of the library's collection as well as
the programs that we offer.
