Free and Reduced-Priced Meal applications are due by Friday, Oct. 3

If you have students that are currently enrolled in the free and reduced meal program and have not yet completed an application for the 2014-15 school year, you must do so by Friday, Oct. 3.
If a new application is not completed by this deadline, students will be moved to full paid status and will no longer receive free or reduced price meals. Assistance is available throughout the school year to those who qualify for free and reduced meals. If your financial status has changed, you may want to consider applying.

Interim Progress Reports will be posted on Parent Portal, mailed home only by request

The September newsletter incorrectly noted that Interim Progress Reports would be mailed home at the beginning of the school year. Please note that this year all Interim Progress Reports will be posted on the Parent Portal. Any parents who wish to have a copy mailed home should contact the Principal’s Office at 785-5511 Extension 3358, or email Carol Stearns at cstearns@ncolonie.org.

Shaker Hall of Fame induction ceremony to be held Oct. 18

Shaker High School, in conjunction with Shaker High School Booster Club, is conducting a Hall of Fame Induction ceremony and luncheon for its newest members on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Century House, Route 9, Latham at noon. The cost of the luncheon is $27 per person. Click here to download a registration form [PDF]. Space is limited. Checks are to be made out to the Shaker High School Booster Club.

Fall 2014 Senior Workshop presentation now available

The Shaker High School Guidance Department conducted workshops September 16 through September 18 for all students in the senior class regarding the post high school planning process, including critical information about college application submissions. This same presentation with audio is available for all parents of seniors as well as other members of the school community that are interested in learning about this important process. Shaker Robotics Team will ‘Rumble’ on Oct. 4

Health departments provide advice on preventing the spread of Enterovirus D68

As you may be aware from recent media coverage, several states in the Midwest reported clusters of a respiratory illness known as Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) affecting children and others over the last few weeks. The North Colonie Central School District is providing information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the New York State Department of Health (DOH) to help parents and community members become better informed about the illness and to help prevent the spread of the illness. »READ MORE

Shaker High student selected for All-National Chorus

Senior Kyle Seniw's love for music and his hard work in many of North Colonie’s choral groups have earned him a place in the National Association for Music Education’s All-National Chorus. The chorus, along with the other all-national ensembles, will perform at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tenn. on Wednesday, Oct. 29. »READ MORE

Parental requests of APPR scores

All parents/guardians will have the right to obtain Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) quality ratings and composite effectiveness scores for their child’s current year’s teacher(s) and principal(s) once the scores are officially available and in accordance with state law. North Colonie plans to provide parents with the scores beginning on October 17, the date by which the final scores are due to New York State. »READ MORE

The Shaker Clock project is completed, a symbol of the school community

The recent installation of the Shaker clock represents a project that originated in the school community in 2008. At the time, the school had just celebrated its 50th anniversary. As part of that celebration, social studies teacher, Mr. Daniel Weaver, suggested raising money for the clock. The Shaker High School World of Difference Club partnered with Student Government in reaching out to all members of the North Colonie community as part of this worthwhile endeavor. »READ MORE

2014 Shaker HS Alumni Hall of Fame inductees announced

Congratulations to Dr. R. Maxwell Alley, Lt. Col. Steve LeBlanc, and Lt. Michael Woods, the 2014 Shaker High School Alumni Hall of Fame inductees. A record number of nominations were received this year, and each candidate had to receive eight of 13 votes from the Alumni Hall of Fame committee in order to be chosen.
