The Shaker High Driver Education Program
serves approximately 220 students each school year, and the
course is offered during the fall, spring and summer terms.
Students are enrolled on a first-come-first-serve basis by
class, beginning with seniors. The course is open to all North
Colonie students age 16 and up; non-North Colonie students
are accepted only if openings remain. The course consists of 24
hours of classroom instruction and 24 hours of in-car
instruction. The cost of the class is $375. Upon
completion, students receive both the five-hour certificate and the
MV285 certificate used for insurance reduction and license
upgrade. One weekday and two Saturday morning classes are
offered in the fall and spring terms. Summer classes are offered
weekday mornings on an alternating day basis. Students may
register by completing an application found in the main office
on the dates noted below. For additional information, contact

Spring 2012
The spring session of Driver Education will
begin on February 1, 2012 with a mandatory 4:00 – 5:00
orientation in the auditorium. The orientation is mandatory for
all students; however, parents are encouraged to attend. To be
eligible for the spring session, students must be 16 years of
age and possess a valid driver’s permit or license prior to
January 29, 2012.
Registration begins January 17th and runs
through January 24th, 2012. The registration form will be posted
on this webpage on the morning of January 17. Following
registration a tentative schedule will be posted outside the
main office and the hall offices. After this period,
registrations will still be accepted on a space-available, first
come, first serve basis.
