The Shaker High Driver Education Program serves approximately 220 students each school year, and the course is offered during the fall, spring and summer terms. Students are enrolled on a "first come, first serve” basis by class beginning with seniors. The course is open to all North Colonie students 16 years or older; non North Colonie students are accepted only if openings remain. The course consists of 24 hours of classroom instruction and 24 hours of in-car instruction, and the cost of the class is $325 Upon completion, students receive both the 5-hour certificate and the MV285 certificate used for insurance reduction and license upgrade. One weekday and two Saturday morning classes are offered in the Fall & Spring terms. Summer classes are offered on weekday mornings on an alternating day basis. Students may register by completing an application found in the main office on the dates noted below. Registration

Registration for the fall 2008 Driver Education program will be held Sept. 4-12.  Class openings will be filled on a "first come, first serve" basis by grade level, so submit your application as early as possible for the best choice of class time.

Classes

The fall session will begin Thursday, Sept. 18 with a mandatory orientation program at 4 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Parents are encouraged to attend.

Three classes are being offered this fall:

• Mondays, 4-5:30 p.m.

• Saturdays, 9-10:30 a.m.

• Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. - noon
