Eleven of North Colonie’s sixth grade cello players had a special opportunity to perform in front of their peers with principal cellist Robert Cafaro from the Philadelphia Orchestra. The students and Cafaro performed Bach Minuet, followed by an hour-long SPAC Classical Kids program for the entire sixth grade.

DSC_5034During its annual visit to Saratoga Springs this August, the Philadelphia Orchestra will perform the live score for the Disney/Pixar film “Ratatouille,” while the movie is shown on the large screens. SPAC’s education director, Dennis Moench, invited all students to a performance by the orchestra at SPAC, for free. In addition, Moench told the students if they attend a performance, they will receive a pass for lawn seats for all classical events at SPAC for themselves and an adult from now until they graduate high school, also for free.

“SPAC’s Classical Kids program is a phenomenal opportunity for our students to be exposed to world class arts programs,” said Deborah Keough, North Colonie District Music Supervisor. “It was wonderful to watch our young cello students play with a professional-level musician from a world-class orchestra, in front of an audience of all their peers.”
