Music Educators' Symposium on Oct. 4, music teachers Camille
Wing (Latham Ridge) and Jeanette Shippey (Boght Hills)

October 12, 2007 - Twelve North Colonie music teachers joined more
than 130 teachers from throughout the Capital Region for a unique
professional development opportunity earlier this month at the
eighth Annual Capital Region Music Educators' Symposium.
The one-day conference, held at the Century House in Latham on Oct.
4, was sponsored by the Capital Area School Development Association
(CASDA) in conjunction with the Suburban Council Scholastic Council
Music Directors.
The conference featured workshops on a variety of music education
topics, including Laban Choral Conducting; Instrument Repair;
Meeting the NYS Standards Through Singing, Playing and Moving; Cello
and Bass Workshop; Flute Fundamentals; NYSSMA Solo Preparation; and
National Board Teacher Certification.
Director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor at Butler
University Henry Leck, who is also an internationally known
specialist in choral techniques and the child's voice, was the
keynote speaker.
"Mr. Leck's remarks focused on teaching creatively, leadership and
artistry, which the teachers found thoughtful and inspiring,
especially in this era of standardized testing," said North Colonie
Music Director Deborah Keough.
