May 8, 2008 – As part of the annual school district budget vote on
May 20, voters will select three of the following candidates to fill
three open seats on the Board of Education, beginning July 1, 2008.
Board positions are unpaid.
Incumbent Joan Hart is seeking re-election to a five-year term,
while incumbent Theresa Joslin is seeking re-election to a two-year
term left vacant by
David
Rosenthal, who resigned in April citing health reasons. Three
candidates are vying for one five-year seat vacated by Theresa
Joslin.
Candidates running for the Board will participate in a
“Candidates’ Forum” following the public forum on the proposed
budget on Thursday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Shaker
High School Counseling Center. Residents are encouraged to attend
the forum to learn more about the candidates’ positions on important
school matters.
Voters will go to the polls on Tuesday, May 20, from 9
a.m. to 9 p.m. to vote in the Annual Election and Budget Vote.
Polls will be open at all elementary schools. Maplewood residents
vote at Goodrich School.
Three vie for one five-year seat vacated by Theresa Joslin

Jeffrey Covington, of 92 Southgate Road in Loudonville, is
seeking his first term on the Board of Education. He is currently
the director of residential services for Catholic Charities'
Disabilities Services. He and his wife, Lisa, have a daughter who
attends Shaker Junior High School and a son who attends Southgate
Elementary School.

Sandy Pangburn, of 20 Bridget Circle in Cohoes, is seeking
her first term on the Board of Education. Pangburn is currently with
Fidelity Investments. She is past president of the Adirondack
Actuaries Club and Forts Ferry PTA. Pangburn is a member of several
district committees, including long-range planning, audit, testing
and the superintendent's parent advisory council. She and her
husband, Kevin, have two children who attend Forts Ferry and Shaker
Junior High School.

Rena Riccardi Hurley, of 39 Dutch Meadows Drive in Cohoes, is
seeking her first term on the Board of Education. She is currently a
senior pharmaceutical sales representative with Abbott Laboratories.
She is also a certified diabetes educator and registered dietician.
Hurley is president of the North Colonie Special Education PTA. She
and her husband, Paul, have three children, a student at Southgate
Elementary School, one at Boght Hills Elementary School and a
toddler.
Incumbent Theresa Joslin runs unopposed for a two-year term

Theresa Joslin, of 16 Clinton Road in Latham, is seeking her
third term on the Board of Education. She is running unopposed for a
two-year term left vacant by David Rosenthal, who resigned in April
citing health reasons. Joslin is currently a manager for Mercy Cares
for Kids, Saint Peter's Health Care Services. She is a past
president and vice president for the Board. Joslin also chaired
several committees, including long-range planning, curriculum and
employee relations. She and her husband, Bill, have three children
who are Shaker graduates and one who is currently enrolled at the
high school.
Incumbent Joan Hart runs unopposed for a five-year term

Joan Hart, of 4 Windmill Way in Cohoes, is seeking her second
term on the Board of Education. She is running unopposed for a
five-year term on the Board. Hart is chief financial officer of
Saratoga Financial Systems. She is currently serving her second year
as Board president. Hart is a past president of Boght Hills PTA and
North Colonie's PTA Council, for which she also served as treasurer.
She and her husband, Steve, have three children, one at Shaker High,
one at Shaker Junior High and one at Boght Hills.
