October 3, 2007 - While they're deployed overseas, soldiers in
the Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry unit will be on the
minds of the entire Boght Hills school community.
The school has volunteered to adopt the troop while they serve the
Army National Guard in Afghanistan for a ten month tour of duty to
support the rebuilding of the Afghanistan National Army and National
Police.
The six soldiers visited the elementary school on Wednesday, Sept.
26 to introduce themselves to the entire study body, explain what
they'll be doing in Afghanistan and what life is like in the
landlocked country located in Central Asia. They also expressed
their deep appreciation for the school's support.
Sixth grade students in Girl Scout Troop 327 and fourth grade
students in Junior Girl Scout Troop 1275 will help facilitate the collection
and delivery of
materials including cards, letters and care packages to be sent to the soldiers
overseas. The school will also be collecting materials to send to
Afghanistan children including pens and pencils, crayons, backpacks,
notebooks and even shoes.
The troop will head to Fort Bragg, North Carolina shortly to begin
basic training before they head to Afghanistan later this winter.
