September 28, 2007 - The entire Blue Creek Elementary School student
body gathered outside on a beautiful fall day to participate in the
school's annual International Peace Day celebration. Peace Day is
recognized on Sept. 21 worldwide as a day of global ceasefire and
non-violence.
The morning's activities included welcoming remarks from Principal
Annette Trapini, a reading from stories of peacefulness by school
counselor Mrs. Eileen Satterlee, and singing and signing of the song
“This Day of Peace” led by music teacher Brook Greco. A select group
of students also recited poems they wrote about peace and the
importance of working together.
Student peace flags were on display, as well as the "Peace Pole"
displaying the word for peace in four different languages: peace,
paz, shalom and amah. Students who displayed outstanding character
during the month of September were selected to tie a blue ribbon to
the peace pole. The ribbons serve as a visual representation for the
character trait "citizenship." A multi-color ribbon decorating the
pole represents all countries of the world.
