Open House is usually held during the fall
months of the school year, but Maplewood students and their parents
got a jump start on the process this week.
On the evening of May 31, Maplewood families had
the chance to formally visit their new elementary school and meet
with faculty and staff. Latham Ridge Principal Jay Martin and Boght
Hills Principal Kim Greiner both gave an opening welcome and a brief
overview of their school, before turning the evening over to student
tour guides.
Latham Ridge teachers were available in their
rooms to answer questions and the PTA executive council was on hand
to discuss PTA-related activities. They also provided refreshments
for the students and their families. Maplewood families were even
treated to a puppet show, put on by the fifth graders.
“I think it went really well,” Martin said. “We
had a good turn out and I heard many positive comments from parents
and students.”
Mrs. Greiner spent time discussing the class
placement procedures and the factors that go into decision making.
She also spoke of the many communication tools Boght Hills uses,
particularly SNN.
“We are very excited about adding new students
to our family,” Greiner said.
“This evening provided our Maplewood families a
chance to get a first hand look at their new school,” Superintendent
D. Joseph Corr said. “So far it seems like the transition process is
going well and we’re very excited about that.”

schools is available by visiting the
