| July 13, 2010 - The price of
elementary and secondary school lunches will increase by .25 cents
when school begins in the fall.
Commencing in September, student lunches will cost $1.75 at the
elementary level and $2.00 at the secondary level.
Rising costs, such as the recently passed Water Bottle Bill and
higher prices on fresh fruits, vegetables and reduced fat food
products have led to this decision.
Repairing, replacing and the purchasing of equipment are ongoing
functions in the Food Service Department. An upgrade in equipment is
contemplated to take place in the next two years at Blue Creek
Elementary, which services all elementary schools.
“The Food Service Program routinely upgrades its equipment, such as
ovens and coolers, in order to have the most efficient operation
available,” Assistant Superintendent for Business, Thomas
Rybaltowski said.
The district is also planning, at the request of students, to
replace styrofoam and plastic products with paper and other “green”
products, all of which are more costly than current supplies.
Should you have any questions regarding this matter, please call the
Food Services Office, 786-8856.
