Shaker High School held
its graduation on Satruday, June 26 at SEFCU Arena on
the campus of the University of Albany. |
June 28, 2010 - It was a beautiful,
sun-splashed morning on Saturday, June 26 and many of the
graduates and their families would be enjoying the weather
that afternoon at various graduation parties. But, before
the parties, SHS students and families filled SEFCU Arena on
the SUNY Albany campus to celebrate the class of 2010.
469 Shaker High School seniors walked across the stage and
received their diploma from Shaker High School principal
Richard Murphy and Hall principals Jane Rose and Jan
Zadoorian. In addition, 96% of the graduating seniors earned
Regents diplomas, with 71% earning advanced Regents
diplomas.
“Academically, you have taken every course we have offered
and been part of every program we have designed,”
Superintendent Randy Ehrenberg said in her remarks to the
seniors. “I commend you for all the efforts and thank your
families and our faculty, staff, and administrators for
helping to instill these fine values in you.”

Colonie School District from 1963 – 2006. He was a science

Shaker graduates look
on as Dr. James O. Jackson addresses the class of 2010. |
“When I think of Dr. James Jackson, I
think of a man who took pride in knowing Shaker students by
name,” Ehrenberg said. “His message of systemic advocacy
lives on as one of his greatest legacies at Shaker High
School. Quite simply, he was an extraordinary leader, a
giant among educators, a highly valuable colleague to many
of us, and a friend and mentor to many here.”
Dr. Jackson urged the students to never back down from a
challenge, instead advised them to embrace it and stand up
for what they believe in.
Senior class president, Jaquell Chandler addressed the class
and treasurer Ryan Tierney presented the class gift, a new
bison costume for sporting events.
Board of Education president Mary Nardolillo spoke to the
students and encouraged them to hold on to their memories of
Shaker High School, while explaining that life is a
roller-coaster with many ups and downs.
“Make your choices and do not look back,” Nardolillo said.
“It is okay that some of them will feel wrong. Someone will
always be there to encourage you and offer support. Your
choices and opportunities are limitless.”
At the conclusion of the ceremony, there were tears and
smiles abound, but more importantly, the class of 2010 took
a collective step forward into their respective futures.
“On behalf of all of us, I wish you much happiness, good
health, and success as you begin the next chapter of your
life,” Ehrenberg said.
Congratulations Class of 2010!
