9, 2010 - Shaker High School alum Tommy Kahnle has been
selected by the New York Yankees with the final pick of the
fifth round, the 175th overall choice, in the 2010 MLB
Draft. Kahnle, a pitcher, was two-year letter-winner at
Shaker High School. He graduated in 2008.
Kahnle pitched this season as a redshirt sophomore at Lynn
University in Boca Raton, Fl. He was 2-7 with a 5.06 ERA. As
a freshman, he was named Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA
Division II national tournament as Lynn won the
championship.
Kahnle was two-year letter-winner at Shaker High School. He
posted a 1-1 record with two saves, a 3.50 earned-run
average and 21 strikeouts in 14 innings while batting .302
his senior year. Kahnle was selected as a Section II Second
Team All-Star Outfielder and to the Section II Suburban
Council All-Star team. He also lettered in basketball and
football and helped the Bison to a Suburban Council
basketball championship as a junior.
Kahnle must now choose between signing with the Yankees or
returning to college.
