May 18, 2010 - North Colonie residents
approved the district’s proposed $91,150,000 budget for
2010-11 on Tuesday, May 18, by a tally of 1,854 yes votes to
1,118 no votes.
Results were announced at the North Colonie district offices
shortly after the polls closed at 9 p.m. The unofficial
results show 62.4 percent of the total 2,972 voters
supported the budget.
The $91,150,000 budget is estimated to increase residential
property taxes by 3.6 percent. The district will set its
final tax rates for the 2010-11 school year in August, based
on final assessment figures as provided by the Town of
Colonie.
In the Board of Education elections, Linda Harrison, who ran
unopposed, was re-elected, receiving 2,137 votes. David
Gaynor was also elected to the Board, taking the seat of
Theresa Joslin. He received 1,410 votes. Board members are
elected to five-year terms that begin on July 1 of the
following school year. The term of office for the two seats
up for election this year is July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2015.
The 2010-11 budget is the result of a comprehensive review
that was conducted by the North Colonie Administration,
Board of Education and several members of the Public Budget
Committee. Throughout its budget deliberations, more than $3
million in reductions and savings were identified across the
district in an effort to bridge the gap between expenses and
revenues.
