March 31, 2010 - Governor David Paterson
announced on Tuesday that he is withholding $2.1 billion in
school aid payments in order to help keep the state from
ending its fiscal year in the red.
North Colonie was due $2.7 million in state aid on March 31.
Instead, the Governor is delaying the payment, due to the
state's fiscal challenges and weakened economy. The funding
is expected to be paid in June.
“Regrettably, North Colonie, like other districts statewide,
finds itself negatively affected by continuing problems at
the state level”, Assistant Superintendent for Business
Thomas Rybaltowski said.
The governor took similar steps in December when he withheld
$750 million in aid payments. When state revenues came to
the levels that Gov. Paterson expected in January, he paid
the state aid to schools.
While this delay in school aid is related to the state
budget process, it should not affect the 2010-11 North
Colonie School budget.
