March 30, 2010 - On November 21, 2009, 159
students of Russian from Mrs. Shkaf’s and Ms. Detmer’s
classes participated in the 28th National Russian Essay
Contest. They competed against more than 1200 students
nationwide. Students completed essays on the topic, “My
Favorite Thing” and demonstrated mastery of the subject
appropriate for their level and ability to use language with
great facility.
Shaker High students received 10 gold and 39 silver medals.
All students who participated in the contest will receive
certificates from the American Council of Teachers of
Russian. The essays awarded with gold medals at the advanced
level will be forwarded to the Pushkin Institute in Moscow,
Russia to be judged in a second round of competition.
The American Council of Teachers of Russian commended Mrs.
Shkaf and Ms. Detmer, the Russian teachers, for the
performance of their students in the 2010 ACTR National
Essay Contest.
