March
9, 2010 - On Tuesday, March 2, the students at Blue Creek
Elementary participated in Read Across America 2010 and
celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday. Support Teacher Amy
Weismann dressed up as the Cat in the Hat, greeting students
as they arrived in the morning.
Children on all grade levels took part in
various different Dr. Seuss activities. Mrs. Connor's
Kindergarten class read One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue
Fish and worked on their rhyming, while Ms. Scism's first
grade class read Dr. Seuss books with their reading buddies in
Mrs. Kemp's fourth grade class.
Ms. Zandri's first grade class read Green
Eggs and Ham, The Foot Book and then played Twister
working on their right and left! Ms. Dennis's second grade class
did Dr. Seuss activities in their centers. Mrs. Berger's third
grade class read Oh, The Places You Will Go and discussed
the connection between the book and our word of the month -
Perseverance.
Mrs. Carlson's third grade class listened to
a read aloud of The Cat in the Hat, and worked on writing
rhyming poems in Dr. Seuss's style. Mrs. Silver's sixth grade
class read Oh, The Places You'll Go as well, and
discussed the author's meaning and how it relates to them, as
sixth graders.
It truly was a Seuss-tastic day!
