March
1, 2010 - The SJHS French Club and advisors Julie
Rubtchinsky and Holly Blau recently held a successful “Hats
for Haiti” program. Students and adults purchased a sticker
for $1.00 (or any donation greater then $1.00), which
allowed them to wear a hat for the entire school day. A
total of $360.00 was collected, which was donated directly
to the American Red Cross to help in their relief efforts in
Haiti.
In addition, SJHS nurse, Joan Schneider and her assistant,
Suzanne Sail, organized a “Health Kits for Haiti” donation
drive. Each health kit collected consisted of: 1 hand towel,
1 wash cloth, a large comb, a fingernail clipper, 1
bath-size bar of soap, 1 toothbrush, and 6 band aids. Each
had to be sealed in a one-gallon plastic bag. The Shaker
Junior High community stepped up once again, as a total of
204 Health Kits for Haiti was donated.
