A weekend recap of SHS Sectionals and States

March 1, 2010 - In NYSPHSAA State Championship competition this past weekend Shaker swimmer Frankie Dyer became a State Champion in both the 200 and the 500-yard freestyle events. These two outstanding accomplishments cap off a season in which Dyer set multiple pool, team and sectional records. There have been multiple articles and segments about Dyer in the local media throughout the season. Dyer will attend and swim for The University of Notre Dame, next fall.

In addition to Dyer's performance at the state championships Shaker's Josh Koppel placed 12th in the diving competition. This is an outstanding accomplishment for a 10th grader.

The NYS Wrestling Championships were held at the Albany Times Union Center , where Shaker's Blake Retell, competed in the opening rounds and while he didn't make it to the semi-final round he the first SHS wrestler to qualify for the state level competition in the past twelve years. Blake's future is bright as he is only an 8th grader at SJHS.

Representing Shaker in the 600m run will be Matt Conti and Chris Herman. Ryan Egan willl run in the 1600 meter, while Reuben Feinman will run in the 300m dash. Running the 1000m leg of the intersectional relay will be David Marthy and Conti, Herman, Brendan Dolan, JQ Chandler, Matt Dustin and Feinman in the 4x400 relay.
