January 15, 2010 - They say if you want to
be successful in a business venture, it starts and ends with
marketing. The advertising design students at Shaker High
School have helped Kevin Gadreault, manager of the Dakota
Steakhouse, achieve that success.
Gadreault came across an e-blast put out through the Colonie
Chamber of Commerce from the Art Department at Shaker High
School. The advertising design students have volunteered their
skills and services to help create logos for businesses and
brand their products. Gadreault contacted John Doolittle, an art
teacher at Shaker High School and explained that he had a new
concept for his restaurant – a murder mystery dinner theatre,
and would like to speak with her students to explain the idea.
The project entailed coming up with a concept that creatively
integrated the Dakota Steakhouse with their new promotion, the
Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre. The design would be something
that they would use on their glassware and other items in the
restaurant, specifically for this event.
44 students from two classes competed for
the job. As of January 14, seven finalists have been recognized
with the winner to be announced next week. Check back to see the
winning designs.
