November 3, 2009 - Continuing with a
longstanding North Colonie tradition, the Faculty Music
Recital, presented by the North Colonie Friends of Music,
will be held November 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Shaker Junior High
School.
The evening will feature nearly 30 faculty members as well
as Shaker High School students performing select pieces from
many different genres.
District Music Supervisor, Deborah Keough, is very excited
about this year’s recital for many reasons. One of those
reasons is the prospects of what students get out of an
evening like this.
“I think it is wonderful that we are able to bring in others
(that do not teach music at North Colonie) to show our
students that music is a big part of our lives; it is not
just a profession. It really enriches our lives.”
“Students will get out of attending the faculty recital just
what adults get out of attending any student performance.”
Shaker Junior High School Principal, Dr. Russell Moore said.
“It is a chance to hear good music and offers the
opportunity to experience the skills that their teachers
possess and an enhanced appreciation of music for the sake
of hearing music.”
Dr. Moore will be participating in the recital. He will be
playing bass guitar.
This year’s recital will feature a variety of pieces that
are audience friendly. The program will showcase Rag, Jazz,
Rock, Classical and much more.
Keough explains that it is not difficult to recruit
performers for the Faculty Music Recital.
“It really comes together pretty smoothly,” she said.
“Performers love to perform, and we have some wonderfully
talented people here. It’s very fulfilling to work and
collaborate with your colleagues, especially on a project
such as this.”
