Gizmos finding its way into classroom

October 2, 2009 - A gizmo may be a word that we use to describe a high-end piece of technology, but to the education world, Gizmos is a virtual learning program making itself known in the classroom.

North Colonie strives to bring educational technology in to the classroom in order to enhance the learning experience. The district has subscribed to this web-based software program and is proud to bring this technology to its elementary teachers and students. Gizmos are correlated to state curriculum standards and over 200 textbooks, making them easy to integrate into the district’s instructional programs.

“The activities are for grades 3 through 6,” Latham Ridge Principal, James Martin said. “Teachers can find basic lessons, activities and experiments in math and science to supplement their own lessons.”

Throughout the week of September 28, North Colonie elementary teachers received Gizmos training. A representative spent a day at each elementary building to give classroom and special area teachers an in-depth look at the program.
