September
18, 2009 - On Friday, September 11, 2009, a group of
students from Costa Rica arrived at Shaker High School.
These students are part of an ongoing exchange program
between Shaker High School and Anglo American High School in
San Jose. The group of 17 Costa Rican students and two
teachers are going to stay with Shaker families for two
weeks.
As part of the exchange program, students
from San Jose will attend classes at Shaker Senior and Junior
High Schools and will get a taste of American home and classroom
life. Numerous activities and field trips have been planned for
this two week exchange. They include a trip to Niagara Falls and
a day trip to New York City.
The exchange is designed to unite students and teachers from
both countries. It allows the Costa Ricans and Americans to
share their diverse cultural experiences and heritage and foster
person-to-person relationships between the two nations.
“It has been an amazing experience to learn
about another culture and understand the language better,"
Shaker High senior Fiona Recchia said. "I will never forget this
awesome opportunity. It was one of a kind."
