June 4, 2009 - Dozens of Shaker High School
seniors were honored for outstanding achievement in academics,
art, music, sportsmanship, service to the community and numerous
other categories at the annual Senior Awards Ceremony on
Thursday, May 14.
Among the nearly 100 awards bestowed upon
students were the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, the National
School Orchestra Association Award, the Shaker Theater Award for
Best Performance in Drama, the American Association of Physics
Teachers Award, the Shaker High School Regents Exam Award, the
Student Government Award, and many, many others.
Students were also honored for achievements
such as recognition by the National Merit and National
Achievement Scholarship programs, placing in the top 5 percent
of the 2009 graduating class and perfect attendance for as many
as seven years in a row.

Students received a plaque or certificate of
recognition with the award, and some awards also included
scholarship money.
Principal Richard Murphy described the
awards as the culmination of the students' time at the high
school.
"All of these students have distinguished
themselves through their commitment to their studies the past
four years," he said.
