February 12, 2009 - Three Shaker High School
seniors were honored for their physical education leadership by
the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education,
recreation and Dance, Inc.-Capital Zone.
Jessica Gilligan, Eric Johnson and Ashley
Kippins received the recognition at the 2009 Secondary Physical
Education Leadership Awards banquet at the Century House in
Latham on Sunday, Feb. 1. More than 40 students from 24 school
districts were recognized.
The students were selected by professionals
in their own districts. In addition to their athletic ability,
they were recognized for their leadership and academic abilities
and community service. Twenty-four schools participated and over
forty-five students were recognized.
Congratulations to our award winners, and
their families. We are all very proud of their efforts, their
character and the example they set for all of our Physical
Education students. Special thanks to our Shaker High School
Physical Education Teachers and especially to Mrs. Gansle for
chairing the selection committee.
