Shaker High pianist to be heard on NPR Saturday, Jan. 17

 

January 19, 2009 - Shaker High School pianist Allen Yu's performance on the NPR program "From the Top" was broadcast on WMHT 89.1 FM on Saturday, Jan. 17.

 

"From the Top" showcases America's top young classical musicians. The program is distributed to more than 200 NPR stations nationwide and reaches nearly 750,000 listeners each week.

 

Allen, a junior, was selected to perform on the program as part of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Young Artist Award he received last fall. The award is given each year to just 25 students nationwide and includes a $10,000 scholarship to support educational and artistic development. Allen traveled to Boston in October to play in front of a live audience, and the performance was recorded for broadcast on "From the Top."
