November 14, 2008 - The New York State Department of Health has
selected the North Colonie Central School District to participate in
a body mass index survey, and the district will be required to
report statistics for students in kindergarten, second, fourth, seventh and 10th
grades.
Only summary information will be sent, meaning
the district will not send names or other information that could
identify individual students. However, parents may choose to have
their children’s information excluded from this survey report
anyway. For more information about the survey, or to complete a form
to have your children’s information excluded,
please visit the Forms page
and view the Health section.
New York State Education Law requires that body
mass index (BMI) and weight status group be included as part of the
student’s school health examination. BMI is a number calculated from
a person's weight and height and helps health professionals
determine if a person’s is in a healthy range or is too high or too
low.
