Principal Richard Murphy congratulated the students and
described the achievement as a reflection of the hard work each
had undertaken. He quoted American physician and writer Oliver
Wendell Holmes Sr. who said, “A mind once stretched by a new
idea never regains its original dimensions.”
Students must have a cumulative grade point average of 90 or
higher to be considered for membership. Students must also
exhibit excellence in four areas—scholarship, leadership,
service and character. These qualities are evaluated by all
teachers and administrators at the high school, as well as
extracurricular activity advisors and coaches.
Each qualified student must submit an application form
detailing: school and community activities; work and leadership
experience; volunteer and extracurricular activities; and awards
received. Candidates must also submit an essay describing their
service activities. A committee of teachers representing both
halls and academic areas reviews the submission materials and
then makes the final selections.
