September 14, 2007 – The New York State Department of Taxation &
Finance is currently mailing new Middle Class STAR rebate
applications to eligible homeowners.
To receive a STAR rebate this year, homeowners who make less than
$250,000 and receive the basic STAR exemption must complete and
submit an application to the New York State Department of Taxation &
Finance by November 30, 2007.
Rebate amounts are based on several factors including school tax
rates, the town in which the home is located and the recipient's
2005 income bracket.
According to New York State’s Tax Department, rebates will range
from $282.59 for households with a 2005 combined income of less than
$90,000, to $141.29 for households with a combined income between
$150,000 and $250,000. Those households with a combined income
between $90,000 and $150,000 will receive a refund of $211.94.
Senior citizens who are property owners and receive an enhanced STAR
exemption on their 2007-08 tax bill will receive a rebate check
automatically. For seniors with enhanced STAR—no application is
required.
