June 17, 2008 – A former North Colonie English teacher, who
also served as a reading and writing specialist and administrative
intern, will return to the district on July 1 as the new English
supervisor.
Kathleen Skeals was appointed to the position by the Board of
Education during its meeting on June 16.
“I am thrilled to be returning to North Colonie,” said Skeals. “I
look forward to building upon the tradition of excellence, which
defines the Shaker High School English department.”
Skeals served the district for 18 years until she left last year to
become the English and reading department chairperson at Locust
Valley Schools in Locust Valley, NY.
Skeals is also a consultant for the New York State Education
Department assisting with the preparation of New York State English
Regents exams, and a past Fulbright recipient.
She is a graduate of the College of Saint Rose, where she received
her bachelor’s degree in English and her certificate of advanced
study in educational leadership. She also has a master’s degree in
reading from the State University of New York at Albany.
Skeals replaces Anne Kuthy, who is retiring at the end of the year
after 17 years as the district’s English supervisor.
