June 17, 2008 – Edward Dopp, a 25-year veteran of the North Colonie
Central School District, has been appointed as director of physical
education and athletics, effective July 1.
“I am honored and consider it a privilege to serve in this new
role,” said Dopp. “We have great students, extraordinary faculty and
staff, and a very supportive administration, board and community. I
am eager to get to work, and to make our programs the best they can
be.”
Since 1983, Dopp has been a high school physical education teacher.
For the past five years, he has also served as director of
continuing education, as well as faculty athletic manager and the
New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s baseball
coordinator.
Dopp was the high school’s head baseball coach for 21 years. He was
also interim principal of Southgate Elementary School and summer
school principal/reading program coordinator at Shaker Junior High
School.
He earned his bachelors degree in physical education from the State
University of New York at Brockport and his master’s degree in
educational studies from the State University of New York at Albany.
He also received his SDA and SAD certification from the
Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
Dopp replaces longtime director David Herman, who is retiring at the
end of the school year after 19 years of service.
