Voters approve school district budget

May 20, 2008 – On Tuesday, May 20, voters in the North Colonie and Maplewood school districts approved the North Colonie Central School District’s proposed budget for the 2008-09 school year.

The tally was 1,560 yes votes to 771 no votes. Results were announced shortly after the polls closed at 9 p.m.

The $88,439,000 budget is expected to increase residential taxes by 3.76 percent—the smallest proposed increase in a decade. The district will set its final tax rates for the 2008-09 school year in August, based on final assessment figures and final equalization rates for each town as provided by the state Office of Real Property Services.

In the Board of Education race, incumbents Joan Hart and Theresa Joslin were reelected to the Board. Hart will serve a five-year term, while Joslin will complete a two-year term left vacant by David Rosenthal. Newcomer Sandy Pangburn was elected to a five-year term. All positions are effective July 9, 2008. Vote tallies were as follows:

Joan Hart—1,770
Theresa Joslin—1,670
Jeffrey Covington—608
Sandy Pangburn—1,047
Rena Riccardi Hurley—323
