May 20, 2008 – On Tuesday, May 20, voters in the North Colonie and
Maplewood school districts approved the North Colonie Central School
District’s proposed budget for the 2008-09 school year.
The tally was 1,560 yes votes to 771 no votes. Results were
announced shortly after the polls closed at 9 p.m.
The $88,439,000 budget is expected to increase residential taxes by 3.76
percent—the smallest proposed increase in a decade. The district
will set its final tax rates for the 2008-09 school year in August,
based on final assessment figures and final equalization rates for
each town as provided by the state Office of Real
Property Services.
In the Board of Education race, incumbents Joan Hart and Theresa
Joslin were reelected to the Board. Hart will serve a five-year
term, while Joslin will complete a two-year term left vacant by
David Rosenthal. Newcomer Sandy Pangburn was elected to a five-year term. All
positions are effective July 9, 2008. Vote tallies were as follows:

Theresa Joslin—1,670
Jeffrey Covington—608
Sandy Pangburn—1,047
Rena Riccardi Hurley—323
