April
7, 2008 - Students in Marsha Gibson's 11R math class
gained a new perspective and appreciation for the application of
math in the real world after a visit to Vicarious Visions, a
local video game company.
“I was surprised how much trigonometry was involved in making
video games,” said Matt Cooper. “It was nice to see a career
that uses the math we learn in class.”
The field trip provided students with an opportunity to observe
how a wide variety of math skills—ranging from basic
measurements and proportions to trigonometry and calculus— are
used in video game production. Students met with a video game
engineer, designer and artist.
“I found the field trip very interesting,” said Amanda Carney.
“It gave me a feel for a possible career, and I had a lot of
fun.”
