Students celebrate Foreign Language Month

March 17, 2008 - The month of March, recognized nationally as Foreign Language Month, is an exciting time of year for North Colonie's Foreign Language Department. Throughout the month, a number of programs, events and activities will be offered to expand students’ interest in and appreciation of cultural diversity.

Decorations, projects and banners, created by students, are currently on display at both the junior and senior high schools. In addition, foreign language students will have an opportunity to participate in national contests, interdisciplinary projects and multicultural experiences in their classes.

Over the past week, students in both buildings have heard morning announcements in French, German, Latin, Russian and Spanish. They will also have the opportunity to participate in poster contests and several foreign language scavenger hunts.

Earlier this month, Shaker High School students held a Russian tea party after school in the Taft Dining Room. Plans have been also made by the International Club to host a "movie and a dinner" event.

During Foreign Language Week, March 3-9, students enjoyed international foods in their cafeterias. Thanks to the hard work of the Food Services Department, featured dishes included sweet & sour chicken, German meatballs, veal parmesan, pineapple-orange chili, quiche Lorraine, Beef Stroganoff and much more.
