21, 2008 – Internationally acclaimed performer Leeny Del
Seamonds stimulated the imagination and confidence of Boght Hills
third-graders during a visit to the school earlier this month.
After warming up with a series of improvisational exercises to show
students how facial expressions emphasize different emotions, Del
Seamonds entertained the group with a variety of folk tales.
Four courageous students volunteered for speaking roles in Tres
Cabras Llmados Gruff, a Spanish version of Three Billy Goats
Gruff—requiring the recitation of Spanish words and phrases. The
remainder of the group performed sound effects.
“There are no stars in an ensemble performance—everyone has a chance
to shine!” said Del Seamonds on her Web site.
There she also explained that this type of ensemble acting not only
fosters self-esteem, cooperation, respect for others and individual
ability, but helps to bridge cultures.
Del Seamonds’ visit, sponsored by the Town of Colonie Library,
helped enhance students’ appreciation for oral literature and
reading, while also enabling them to fully embrace the lessons and
morals found in the stories.
