On
Monday, April 30, Superintendent Randy Ehrenberg was honored with
the Pathfinder Award at the 17th annual New York State Association
for Women in Administration (NYSAWA) conference.
The Pathfinder award is given to an individual who has made
significant contributions within their field, supported the
advancement of women in educational leadership, and continues to
champion the NYSAWA mission. The NYSAWA mission promotes
gender-balanced leadership and advances equity and diversity in
schools.
"Early on as an administrator, I developed an interest in mentoring
other women. I served on the board of Women in Educational
Leadership in central New York and worked hard to build that
organization, serving as WEL’s president for several years," said
Ehrenberg. "During my presidency, I was invited to meet with a small
cadre of women from around the state to discuss forming a statewide
organization that would advocate for women and minorities in school
administration. This was at a time when many men were moving up in
the ranks of administration through male networks, often through
contacts made on golf courses. No such parallel network existed for
women."
"The connection to these other like-minded women fostered my own
resolve to continue my mentorship activities, to continue to promote
diversity and also to show young girls the opportunities for careers
in nontraditional female fields," added Ehrenberg.
"I am appreciative of those individuals who supported my nomination
for this award and to the NYSAWA selection committee. I pledge to
continue to keep the NYSAWA mission in the forefront of my mind and
heart now and into the future," Ehrenberg concluded.
Congratulations!
