On Tuesday, Nov. 14, Latham Ridge Elementary
School participated in the national "Mix it Up at Lunch Day,"
which celebrates meeting new friends at lunchtime. Each student
received a special animal stamp on their hand before entering
the lunch room. Students were then directed to sit at the lunch
table that had the corresponding animal — forcing them to sit
with other students that they might not have sat with before.
Each table had a jar of "conversation starters," with questions
to ask new friends such as "What is your favorite movie?" or
"What's your favorite thing about Latham Ridge?" A sixth-grade
table full of students even started singing a song with their
new friends! The initiative ties in with
the school's Character Education program.
