Letter to parents regarding Yusef Westerman’s death

| November 23, 2015

Dear Parents:

Today our students and faculty responded well as they coped with the loss of our student, Yusef Westerman.  Counselors were available for students and staff who were affected by the loss of this student.  We are all deeply saddened and extend our sympathy to Yusef’s mother and sister.

We realize that this is a difficult time for our students, faculty and staff.  We have and will continue to provide opportunities to speak with counselors and have them available in the Shaker High School Counseling Center and in our classes.  It is important that all of us acknowledge our grief and sadness.  Even though it may seem hard, it is important to express our feelings and access loved ones, teachers, and friends for support.

As the grieving process continues, please be aware of your child’s reaction and feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Richard W. Murphy
Shaker High School Principal
