Dear Parents,
The staff and I are excited about the school
year ahead. We have been working hard all summer to plan new
academic activities and to make sure the building is in good
shape for our new and returning students.
Reading and writing will once again be a
primary focus in our school in the upcoming year. The district
will continue to be implementing our new math program in all
classrooms, and a new spelling text will be introduced in grades
3-6. Students in grades five and six will be studying foreign
languages for the first time this year, and those in first
through third grade will have additional P.E. lessons each week.
Everyone will benefit from new computers in the lab, and other
new equipment throughout the building.
There has been much work in the last few years to improve school
safety and encourage quality character traits in our students.
There will be a schoolwide assembly on the first day of school
to reinforce school rules in the classroom, in the lunch room,
on the playground, and on the buses. Look for a contract to come
home, which states the rules and consequences all of our
students must agree to abide by. We will continue to host
monthly character education assemblies to reinforce behavioral
expectations.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the
upcoming Open House nights. There you will be able to meet your
child’s teacher and other staff members. You will learn more
about the academic programs, special activities and expectations
of Latham Ridge School. You will also have a chance to learn
more about our PTA and the activities they have planned for the
year.
Student/Parent Handbooks and 2008-09 calendar magnets will be
distributed at the Open Houses. Please remember that this is not
a time to question the teacher about your child’s progress.
Formal parent-teacher conferences will be scheduled in November
(you may sign up at Open House). If you must speak to the
teacher before the November
conferences, you may call school at any time to arrange for an
appointment.
If you have any questions regarding a school matter or
suggestions for school improvement, do not hesitate to call or
drop in. You are always welcome in your school.
Have a great school year!
Mr. Martin
Principal
