Elementary price increases
The Board of Education voted to increase the
price of our elementary meals. Beginning September 2007,
breakfast will be $1.25, (no charge for reduced student with
application on file) and lunch will be $1.50 (0.25 for
reduced-price student with application on
file). Elementary prepaid meals are $30 for 21 meals.

student meals are available at the Food Service Office located
in Shaker Junior High. To access an application online,

Applications should be submitted to Melodie Marco, Food Service
Director, North Colonie Central School District, 475 Watervliet-Shaker
Road, Latham, NY 12110. Applications may be submitted anytime
during the school year.

Health and Nutrition Fair on June 8
The North Colonie Food Service Department
coordinated a Health and Nutrition Fair at Latham Ridge's Spring
Fling on Friday, June 8. Students learned about everything from the
10 reasons to exercise to the healthy food groups in the food
pyramid. Thank you to the following organizations for attending the
fair: American Dairy Association and Dairy Council, Inc., Albany
County Department of Health, Capital District Pediatric Dentistry,
D. Brickman, Hannaford Guiding Star Program, New York Farm Bureau,
St. Peter's Hospital Family Life Insurance Center, and "Bon-Bon" the
Clown and facepainter.

Colonie Food Service Director is selected as Outstanding Director of
the Year
Every
school day over 40 million healthy school meals are served to
children nationwide. Caring, experienced child nutrition
professionals work hard both behind the scenes and with children to
provide nutritious, safe and appealing meals.
The School Nutrition Association (SNA) has
awarded our own Food Service Director, Melodie Marco, as the
Outstanding Director of the Year Award for both the state of New
York and the Northeast Region of the United States. Marco will be recognized at the SNA
Annual National Conference in Chicago, Illinois in July. »

North Colonie Food Service Program wins two "Best Practices" awards
The New York State Department of Education awarded North Colonie Central School District’s Food Service Department with two “2006 Best Practices” awards. The first is for “Excellence in Improving the Cafeteria Environment” and the second is for “Excellence in Managing a Kitchen/Cafeteria Facelift.”
“This is the first time the district has won two awards in the same year,” said Food Service Director Melodie Marco.
