Shaker Junior High School student writes winning play

A play written by Shaker Junior High School student Sabrina Salam, center, was selected as one of the winners of the 2016 Young Playwright Contest. Congratulations!

Congratulation to Shaker Junior High School student and budding playwright Sabrina Salam! A play that she wrote was recently selected as one of six winning entries in the 2016 Young Playwright Contest sponsored by Capital Repertory Theater in Albany.

After learning earlier this year that her student has written several short plays, teacher Tracy Henry, a Family and Consumer Sciences educator at Shaker Junior High who directs the school’s annual fall play, encouraged her actor/writer student, Salam, to enter the contest.

Following the required guidelines, Salam wrote a play titled “Flawed Perfection” that she submitted to the contest – and as the saying goes – the rest is history. Salam and the five other playwrights were recognized at a reception on May 4. “Flawed Perfection” and the other winning plays will be performed August 11-14 at Capital Rep in Albany.
