May 2012
Dear Families:
We’re down to the last two months with many
exciting activities, but still lots of learning to be done. The
nice weather will be challenging for us to compete with for the
attention of the children. We appreciate your help to keep them
focused and well-rested.
We just completed two weeks of NYS
assessments. Thank you for sending your child(ren) to school on
time each day with a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast.
We anticipate that students will experience the same level of
success to which they are accustomed.
The week of May 7th, students in grades 1-6
will take the IOWA Tests of Basic Skills each morning. We ask
that they arrive on time so that we can begin on time. No
preparation other than a good night’s sleep and a healthy
breakfast is necessary. Please make note of science test dates
for grade 4 and 6, also.
Please join us on May 16th at Shaker High
School for the 5th and 6th grade concert beginning at 7 pm. May
11th is Spirit Day. Wear your favorite vacation t-shirt. The
Annual School Board Election and Budget Vote will take place in
the lobby on May 15th from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. For your
convenience, throughout the day, there will be reserved parking
spaces for voters. On this evening, we will also be hosting our
Fourth Annual Ice Cream Social from 4:00-6:00 pm in the
cafeteria. Our fifth graders will provide table service for this
fun event. If you need any further information, please contact
our main office. Please reserve the closest parking spaces for
voters if you’ll be staying to enjoy the many treats inside.
While eating ice cream and viewing student projects in the
classrooms, don’t forget to check out the Scholastic Book Fair
in the multipurpose room. We will also be having a gift basket
giveaway on the stage. Tickets will be on sale at the door. If
you would like to donate items, please call the school. A list
of suggested donations appears in this newsletter. Be sure to
vote on the school budget and BOE candidates. To hear more
details about the budget, plan to attend the PTA meeting on May
9th at 6:30 pm.
If you have not yet registered for an online
account to the School News Notifier (SNN), please do so. To
reduce the cost of paper and to be more environmentally
friendly, we utilize mostly electronic communications. You may
receive emails or text messages.
Now that the weather is warmer, students
like to dress accordingly. We ask your assistance with making
sure that their attire is professional for a school environment
so as not to be dangerous (e.g. flip-flops) or distracting
during instruction. Enclosed is page 19 from the Shaker Junior
High School Student Handbook that we follow as well.
We are currently in the process of planning
the June Jamboree. On Friday, June 8th, the en-tire Boght Hills
school community will have the opportunity to work together in
K-6 teams. It will be an exciting day for everyone with many
opportunities to volunteer. Please contact Chairperson Lisa
Joslin to offer your time and talents.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Greiner
