North Colonie operates on a Committee of the whole structure, meaning all nine board members are members of all standing committees. These meetings take place as needed throughout the school year. Committee meetings are usually held on a Monday or Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. either in the Shaker High School Conference Room (second floor next to the Principal’s Office) or Shaker High School Counseling Center (first floor next to the library).

These committee meetings are study sessions where the members receive and discuss information on the topic being presented. During these meetings, the Board and administration may decide on a path of action to pursue in relation to the topic being discussed.

The Board of Education has also assigned a Board member to be a representative to each of our school PTA’s. The Board member will try to attend all PTA meetings or special events at the school as needed. At the PTA meetings the Board member is available to give updates or answer questions from those in attendance. In April or May the Board member and superintendent will do a budget presentation at each school.
