Week 6
Cheila
Diao
Track & Field
This junior has been very consistent this year,
placing in every meet. At the prestigious Yale Track Classic, she
took 2nd place. Her throw of 35’ 8 ½” set a new school shot put
record.
Josh
Koppel
Swiming & Diving
This senior had an outstanding meet in the
teams’ 103-83 victory over Bethlehem. This was the first time Shaker
has beaten BC in over 40 years! Josh’s score of 341.25 broke both
the school and pool diving records. This score earned him the first
seed in Section II for both large and small school divisions.
Week 5
Colin
Burke
Varsity Swimming & Diving
This senior has been a steady force for the swim
team, leading them to their best start in many years. As a team
captain, Colin shows great leadership both in and out of the pool.
In a victory against Guilderville, his 100 yard butterfly was the
best swim of the meet. He followed that up with a great time of
1:06.67 in a narrow 95-91 loss to powerhouse Niskayuna.
Lauren
Woods
Varsity Basketball
Lauren is having an outstanding senior season.
This week, she played a major role in leading the team to league
victories over Guilderland and Columbia, improving the team record
to 7-0/8-1 overall. In the Guilderland game, Lauren became the first
Shaker girls basketball player ever to score 1,000 points in their
career! Lauren sank 2 free throws to hit 20 points on the night and
1,000 for her career!

Emma
Torncello
Varsity Indoor Track & Field
This senior is off to a very impressive start.
She is putting up impressive numbers competing regularly in five
events. Emma is currently on the team leaderboard for the following
events.
Long Jump - 1st - 17’ 5 ½”
Triple Jump - 2nd - 33’ 9”
55m High Hurdles - 1st - 9.7
55m Dash - 2nd - 7.7
300m - 2nd - 46.0
Austin
Drescher
Varsity Indoor Track & Field
This junior has helped the team jump out to a 3-0 start. Just
before the holiday break, he was a triple winner in a meet at
HVCC. Austin won the long jump, high jump and was a member of the
winning 4x200 relay.
Week 3
Andrew
Holmes
JV Basketball
This sophomore played a major role in a hard fought 58-55 victory
over Ballston Spa. Andrew scored 20 points and was 11 for 12 from
the foul line, making 11 straight including 6 in the final
quarter.
Stefanie
Miller
Varsity Gymnastics
This sophomore had an excellent meet in leading Shaker to a 4th
place finish in the Shaker Invitational. Stefanie, coming off an
injury and illness, placed in the top 10 on all events. She was
3rd all-around, 4th on bars and floor, 7th on the beam and 10th on
the bars.
Week 2
Tricia
Daigneault
Varsity Bowling
This junior has been very consistent in putting up some big
numbers. Against Shenendehowa, Tricia earned 3 team points,
bowling a 210 high game and a 577 series. Against Niskayuna, she
recorded a 226 high and a 597 series and against Saratoga she
contributed a 213-558 which led to the teams highest cumulative
pin total for the season.

Abara
Varsity Basketball
This senior put in two outstanding all-around efforts this week.
Against Burnt Hills Ballston Lake, he scored 13 points, had 8
rebounds and 4 steals as the team 56-41. Against Ballston Spa,
Chinalu scored 15 points and pulled down 8 rebounds to go with his
3 steals. His efforts led his team to a 72-57 team victory.
Week 1
Blake
Retell
Varsity Wrestling
Blake went 5-0 for the week in leading the wrestling team to a 1-0
league record and 2 wins in the Maple Hill tournament. Blake set a
new Shaker high school career record by recording his 130th
varsity victory! The previous record was 126 and Blake is only a
10th grader.
Jenni
Barra
JV Basketball
This sophomore scored a combined 32 points in the first two games
of the year. She shot 90% from the free throw line in leading her
teammates to a 69-10 victory over Averill Park and a 50-20 victory
over Saratoga.
