Over the years Shaker High School students have done graphic design work for numerous businesses and organizations, including the Albany Tennis Club, New York State Amateur Boxing Championships, Best Buddies, Mohawk River Community Partners, Dakota Steakhouse, Clean Up America, Donna Marie Jewelry, Capital District Association for Rental Property Owners, Runway 7, and Spaceland. Many of these opportunities have been provided to students by the Colonie Chamber of Commerce.

Two years ago, Shaker students were asked if they would be interested in designing the logos for the various committees that operate within the Chamber. A representative came to the high school and gave a thorough presentation, outlining the services and functions of the four committees. Students then began brainstorming work within teams of three or four, working to develop ideas for logos for each of the committees. They sketched out their ideas and ultimately presented a final drawing to the Chamber for review, using Adobe Creative Suite software.

The Chamber recently selected the winning designs, created by Shaker High School senior, Jaclyn Swierczewski, and Shaker High School Class of 2015 student Jessica Warren. Both Swierczewski and Warren were students in John Doolittle’s Advertising and Design class during the 2014-15 school year.

The logos will be used for the Chamber of Commerce’s email marketing campaigns, on its website, and in printed promotional material that is given to members.
